Indian highways are undergoing a major change.
From thin arterial structures, highways are being turned into giant entities.
Imagine a single road accomodating trafic of both directions being turned into a 8 laned road.
The roads are increasing in capacity to transfer number of vehicles at any given period. That means more movement and higher influx of trafic from one city to another.
It is a pleasure to drive on these highways. You just zoom past everything. Flyovers have added their share to please the vehicles.
You can reach the destination in significantly reduced time.
The nightmares are roads of city.
Neglected, abused and overlooked they have become weakest links in a journey between two cities.
Mixed traffic, reduced road space due to encroachment by shops, potholes, manholes, ditches, cows, rickshaws, railway crossings.
You name an inconvenience and you would soon encounter it.
So the time gained on highways is eaten by the city roads.
I do not know when they would be improved.
