I was an avid reader of literature since my childhood. There were few religious books in our house which I used to relish. In those times I read Ramayana, Mahabharata, books by Vivekananda.

I received autobiograpy of Milkha Singh as an award when I was in fifth class. It was quite nice to read.

When I reached high school my interest got shifted to Hindi prose. Chandrkanata Santati, books by Premchand, Mahadevi Verma, Amrita Pritam, Bacchan… There were a lot others that I am forgetting.

Before MBBS I only read in Hindi and Punjabi. English never came naturally to me.

I was introduced to English literature in my MBBS. I have read a lot of works by different authors both classics and contemporary.

Then something happened.

Slowly, as a result of the lack of time the habit faded away.

I read only sporadically. On PC reading increased with time and books were away.

I still like reading books and have a lot of areas of interset from Poetry to Politics.

I am trying to revive the habits. I would create a note every time I finish one.

Another new is that I am shifting my bases,….. again.

I have been working in Sacred Heart Hospital in Jalandhar for past eight months. It is nice hospital that functions well but I am leaving the job to establish my own practice.

And the best place after all consideration was done was found to be my hometown and nearby area.

I would be joining swami Premanand Hospital in Mukerian and have an OPD at my clinic in the evening.

It seems like a good strategy.

The need to move has stemmed from the need of going home and stay with parents.

There are a lot of plans that I would be discussing. Let us see how things turn.

The phone is aimed at the rural market that prefers low-end handsets. Another factor taken into consideration are power cuts which are frequent in rural India.

When the phone is exposed to sunlight, it charges itself. The set can also be charged in a room under normal daylight with special support of hardware and software.

The phone would have features like FM radio, colour screen and a powerful torch light.

It offers eight days of standby time and four hours of talk time.

Currently, Vodafone has 65 % of rural network coverage which is second highest in India.

Our society is addressed as selfish and self centered. We rarely care about what others might go through. Concern and care are as rare as good weather.

What concern us most is what is ours.

Rest can go in hell.

But as with other things this is not entirely true.

I was chased by a young boy on bike for two kilometers that I have a car door partially closed.

Recently I was stopped on the road to tell that road has broken glass and  should be careful.

People do lend helping hand.

It does make you feel better.

When the construction process begins, it finishes quite fast. The delay is often in the initiation. When man and machine are on the job, the work finishes in snap.

But there is another problem. I think that lies with official sanctions and apathy.

Most of the works keep on lurking.

Procedures and processes or lack of them is no more a weakest link.

It sometimes pains to see a JCB lying alone with its driver sleeping just because the clearance is awaited.

And public wonders if chaos were less when road was narrow!

Beginning today, I have decided that I will be posting three times a week instead of daily.

As it can be guessed easily, time is the major constraints. This blog has just started to pick up its speed and I feel happy writing on this.

But there are other engagements too.

I do not want to write few lines and then post it for sake of publishing. I have chosen this blog to be a ground for sharing everything I feel and like/dislike.

I do not want t just wind it up everyday.

As this blog is not bounded by any limits of niche/audience, there is plenty to say.

But the time is factor.

I can post daily for few days but I can see a very busy 2010 where it may not be possible to write on this blog everyday.

I already write on daily basis on the two other sites of mine.

One is Home For Profits, a website about internet marketing. This was my first website that I started in 2004.

Another is Bone and Spine Health which is a website about musculoskeletal health.

I have to write on these sites daily because I have been doing that in the past.

So setting a daily frequency for this website is not practical and would be counterproductive in the end.

I have decide Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays as probable days on which I would be posting on this site.

I will let you know.

Bandhs and protests always cause public inconvenience.

There are methods to solve issues without inconvenience to others.

A bandh paralyses the state.

Who gets benefited from paralysis?

It is the common man that is at loss.

Anyways. I just hope it remains peaceful.

Yes! 40 minutes.

This happened today morning.

That delayed my journey by probably more than the period  I than I waited at the crossing because it took another 30 minutes to clear the backlog and before traffic was smooth again.

I have always despised railway crossings. I do not think anyone likes them except children who love to see a moving train.

Railway crossings stop the movement.

Everyday thoousands of people stop to let a train pass. I cannot even count how many manhours are wasted at these crossings.

There are people who face this menace everyday.

Railway overbridge is a beautiful solution. Everyone including rail can move.

But we are still left with so many crossings that it stops making sense when we say that we are developing.

From thin arterial structures, highways are being turned into giant entities.

Imagine a single road accomodating trafic of both directions being turned into a 8 laned road.

The roads are increasing in capacity to transfer number of vehicles at any given period.That means more movement and higher influx of trafic from one city to another.

It is a pleasure to drive on these highways. You just zoom past everything. Flyovers have added their share to please the vehicles.

You can reach the destination in significantly reduced time.

The nightmares are roads of city.

Neglected, abused and overlooked they have become weakest links in a journey between two cities.

Mixed traffic, reduced road space due to encroachment by shops, potholes, manholes, ditches, cows, rickshaws, railway crossings.

You name an inconvenience and you would soon encounter it.

So the time gained on highways is eaten by the city roads.

I do not know when they would be improved.

1 December is celebrated as World AIDS Day every year.

The aim is to raise the level of awareness and spread. The disease has killed millions and is still infecting many others.

Let us strengthen those who are fighting and who are helping the fighters.
